Important announcement about Pig & Co
April and May 2014 break in usual service
Due to the unfortunate coming together of three difficult challenges for our business, I'm sorry to announce that Pig & Co will be taking a break and pausing production and sales during April and May 2014.
Firstly, and most significantly, is the issue of my continued ill health. Sadly, I am still struggling to recover from some surgery late last year and, as things stand, I'm unable to do any meaningful work for the majority of the time. I had a further procedure performed last week which, I'm told, should offer a good chance of an improved recovery but we will have to wait and see.
Secondly, our son who has been the cornerstone of the business for the last two years, is temporarily off to pastures new (and if you saw the state of our pastures you'd understand why!). He has worked tirelessly to create our award winning products and care for our pigs for little reward and has more than earned the opportunity to go off and see the world. Whilst the timing is unfortunate, we wholeheartedly support him in his long planned travels and he has threatened to return!
Finally, the relentless rain and flooding over the past winter has wrecked our land. Now, many pig keepers would continue to keep pigs in these terrible conditions but we, in all good conscience, will not do so. And, as we're totally committed to proper and total outdoor free range pig keeping, we reluctantly have had to temporarily reduce the size of our herd down to just a few of our favourite breeding sows, to give our land time to recover.
All of these together mean we have decided to "pause for thought" for a few months. We will not be attending our usual markets nor producing for our trade customers, both of which I sincerely apologise for.
We have many options as to the directions we can take the business in the future but none are realistic or achievable until my health improves.
I'd like to thank all our loyal customers (retail & trade) and our suppliers, market organisers and others for all for your support and evangelism for our products. Without you, and the support of our family and friends, we would never have got this far.
But we do hope to go further, just as soon as we can.
Thank you all for all your kind words and thoughts. We'll keep you in touch with how things develop.
